Artist's Comments

Still working on this, now it is correctly routed both front and back. Now I'm starting modeling the original Edge bridge, it is difficult to find good material on that, but I have a lot of pictures :)

As usual, modeled with Pro|E, rendered in Hypershot

I had to learn ProE for work, I was really struck by the way mechanical modeling software works, it's completely different from packages like 3dsmax or Lightwave, and also quite different from NURBS modelers like Rhino or solidThinking. It's a tough package, but if, like me, you are into mechanical modeling there's nothing better than this (or SolidWorks, NX, Solidedge, there's a lot of them to try). Of course forget subdivision surfaces and organical "soft" modeling with this pacakges :D (although I see subDs facing as a rapid prototyping tool in many packages like SolidEdge...

i actually just got a student copy of Maya, and that is blowing my mind, not by its capabilities, but the fact that its an Autodesk software and is TOTALLY differrent then CAD or 3DSMax combined. But I'm gonna have to be familiar with it for school later on, so i thought i would jump on it.

The reason Maya has not much to do with Autodesk products is perhaps because it was originally a derivative of Alias|PowerAnimator, a pioneering software from Alias|Wavefront (and yes, the "Wavefront OBJ" file format we still use today for interoperability dates back to that).

Anyway I tested the personal learning edition and the interface is really hard, looks tuned for experienced user and not for ease of use... Anyway it's a software with an enormous potential, I suggest you give it another chance because I've seen so many great works done in Maya...

PS: there are WAY too much 3D software out there, impossible to get to grips with each of them :D
